A link with Huguenot descendants
In view of maintaining a link with Huguenot descendants, the ‘comité’ is in close contact with the Huguenot Societies of South Africa, Germany, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, the USA, Great Britain, Ireland, Italy, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Poland and Switzerland. It is organised as an association according to the French law of 1901 and it works together with the Fédération Protestante de France.
On the first Sunday of every month, at 8.25, on France Culture, the ‘comité’ broadcasts a radio programme and it also publishes ‘La Lettre’ twice a year, which deals with various matters, but especially with Protestantism, its history, its influence throughout the world and the activities of different Huguenot associations. Every three years, Le Messager Huguenot is published ; it gives a full, illustrated account of the most recent international Huguenot meetings to have taken place in France.
From time to time, an outing or an event in the evening takes place. This can be a lecture, a visit or an excursion.
Every three years, the comité organizes an international meeting for Huguenot descendants in France, in a region where protestant history has left its mark. The first took place in the Cévennes and then in La Rochelle (1969), Fontainebleau et Châtillon-Coligny (1972), Strasbourg and Colmar (1975), Rouen (1978), Grenoble and the Dauphiné (1981), Paris and the Touraine (1985), Nîmes and the Cévennes (1988), Agen (1991), Poitiers (1994), Mulhouse (1997), in Bretagne (2000), in the Cévennes (2003) and in Normandy (2006).
At these meetings, members can have a unique opportunity to rediscover their historic roots and also to link up with other Huguenot descendants who come from all over the world.
The next international meeting
The XVth international meeting of Huguenot Descendants will take place in 2009, in….
The last meeting took place in September 2006 in Normandy.
