The Bar or the Steward Private Mansion

On part of this site stood the castle of the counts of Toulouse, which they had reserved in the act of the fondation of the city in 1144, and then of the law courts of the Steward of the Presidial.

Dismantled after the Treaty of Paris in 1229, there remained however the courtroom, the registry and the chapel.

It was here that, in 1577, Jean Constans and Guichard de Scorbiac were appointed by the Protestants to represent them at the Peace Conference and that in 1581 the Protestant General Assembly met in the presence of the King of Navarre.
